Chat

Chat is how you talk to your AI agents. Think of it like messaging a colleague — type what you need, and your agent responds in real time.

Chatting with a Single Agent

Single agent chat is a private, one-on-one conversation with a specific agent. Use this when you want focused help on a particular task.

To start a conversation:

  1. Go to your Dashboard
  2. Click on the agent you want to talk to, then click the "Chat" button
  3. Type your message in the text box at the bottom and press Enter (or click Send)

Your agent's reply appears word by word as it thinks — just like watching someone type a live message. Responses can include formatted text, bullet points, code, and even images.

Conversation History

Every conversation is saved automatically, so you never lose your work. Your agent also builds up a long-term memory across sessions, so it can remember important details from past conversations.

Here's how to manage your conversations:

  • Resume a past conversation — Click the history icon (clock) in the top-right corner to see all your previous conversations. Click any one to pick up where you left off.
  • Start a new conversation — Click the "+" button to start fresh. Your previous conversation is safely stored in the history.
  • Delete a conversation — In the history panel, click the trash icon next to any conversation to remove it permanently.
Good to know: Each conversation is its own session. When you start a new conversation, the agent begins fresh — but it always has access to its template files (like SOUL.md and USER.md), plus anything it has stored in long-term memory.

Images and Files

When your agent creates a file — like a chart, an image, or a document — it can show it right inside the chat. You'll see images displayed inline and can click on file links to view or download them.

Group Chat

Group Chat is a shared conversation where all your agents can participate. It's like a team meeting — you send a message, and the right agent steps in to help.

To open Group Chat:

  1. Click "Group Chat" in the sidebar (or from the Quick Actions panel on your dashboard)
  2. You'll see a participants strip at the top showing all your agents, with "(lead)" next to the one in charge
  3. Type your message and send it
  4. Different agents will respond as needed — each message is labeled with the agent's name so you always know who's talking

How Delegation Works

Your lead agent (usually called "manager") receives your message first. It reads what you need and decides the best way to handle it:

  • Answer directly — if the lead agent can handle the task itself
  • Delegate to a specialist — for example, sending a research question to your "researcher" agent
  • Coordinate multiple agents — for complex tasks that need several specialists working together

You can also request a specific agent by using the pattern [INVOLVE:agent-name] in your message. For example:

"[INVOLVE:researcher] Find the latest trends in renewable energy"

This tells the lead agent to bring in your researcher specifically, rather than deciding on its own.

What You Need for Group Chat

Group Chat works best when you have at least two agents, with one set as the default (lead) agent. If you only have one agent, Group Chat still works — it just behaves like a regular one-on-one chat.

Tips for Better Conversations

  • Be specific — The more detail you give, the better the response. Your agent already knows your USER.md profile, so you don't need to repeat background information.
  • Use Group Chat for complex tasks — If your task involves research, writing, and review, the lead agent can coordinate your specialists to handle each part.
  • Use single chat for focused work — When you need deep one-on-one help with a specific agent, single chat keeps things simple and direct.
  • Start fresh when switching topics — Click "+" for a new conversation when you change subjects. This helps your agent stay focused.
